Where is the love, President Obama?

This is the question on the minds of arts advocates around the country. I’m talking about the love for the arts. Today the Obama Administration released its proposed budget for the 2010 fiscal year, which includes a $21 million cut to the budget for the National Endowment for the Arts. The FY 2012 budget is not all bad news for the arts, as both the Smithsonian and NPR remain funded at a reasonable level, but both the NEA and NEH suffered from severe cuts. Both of these organizations provide funding directly to programs that can help us “win the future,” as  President Obama called Americans to do in his most state of the union address.

I’m keeping this post on the short side because I don’t want to pretend I know more about economics than I actually do. But I strongly encourage you to listen to today’s podcast by Robert Lynch, the current CEO of Americans for the Arts.
