Will you be spending next week at the AATE National Conference in Washington, D.C.? If so, I hope to see you next Thursday morning at a session I’m co-facilitating with my UT colleague, Lara Dossett all about teaching artistry! The session description is below, and we hope you can join us!
Reflection, Action, and Advocacy: Teaching Artist Professional Development
Lara Dossett, The University of Texas at Austin
Meredyth Pederson, The University of Texas at Austin
Through a reflective practitioner lens we create a space for dialogue among teaching artists from diverse locations and contexts. We aim for this active exploration of teaching artistry to inform individual practice and generate collective advocacy for teaching artistry as a profession. Through full-group active discussion, small group collaborative creation and individual reflection, we plan to explore the following questions: What is a teaching artist? How do teaching artists define and articulate what they do? How do teaching artists continue their own learning and hone their craft? We aim to: Spark dialogue among teaching artists about the intersection of artistry and pedagogy in teaching artistry; Provide teaching artists with the tools to identify and seek out professional development; Engage participants in active reflection in order to think about their teaching artist practice in new ways; Begin building a supportive network of teaching artists. Come join us!
